23rd GMS Program Ministerial Conference

Bearing the theme "Greater Integration, Inclusivity and Sustainability in the GMS," the 23rd Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Program Ministerial Conference was held on 17 - 18 November 2019 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. With participation of the GMS Ministers and Senior Officials from the six engaging countries; Cambodia, People's Republic of China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, and representatives of development partners and private sectors, the MC-23 aimed at finalizing the proposed GMS Long-Term Strategic Framework for the GMS Leaders' consideration and endorsement at the 7th GMS Summit.
On behalf of GMS Business Council, Mr. Sutee Satanasathaporn, Secretary General of GMS-BC, reported the activities and acheievements of the business council. Aiming to enhance GMS Strategic Framework 2012–2022, the GMS Ha Noi Acton Plan 2018–2022, and the Regional Investment Framework 2022, GMS-BC develops the strategic action plan, focusing on major areas; transport and trade facilitation, energy, agriculture, environment, tourism, urban and border area development, human resources developments, e-commerce, including MSMEs, and young and women entrepreneurs as cross cutting issues. One of the most dynamic activities of GMS-BC centers around promoting cross-border logistics and connectivity through GMS-Freight Transport Associations (GMS-FRETA). Presently, GMS-FRETA is strengthening the organization by enhancing involvements from related transport and logistics agencies in GMS countries. GMS-BC, welcomes the long-term strategic framework 2030, to continue fostering cooperation, increasing connectivity and enhancing competitiveness. Mr. Sutee underlined that it is crucial for government sectors, private sectors, and development partners to join hands as a strong partnership and direct GMS region towards sustainable growth in entire areas.
